What is the difference between Core Duo and Pentium D? Can you put a Core Duo in a PC?
I have heard that Pentium D processors are only for desktops. But, if Core Duo can only be put in laptops, then why is Apple offering iMacs with Core Duo processors?
The pentium D is a dual core processor.

Lets clear this up for you.
A pentium D is a dual core pentium 4, and is a power hungry, full blown desktop processor.
A pentium Core processor is designed for laptops, and uses much less power.
What makes the Core processor special, is the fact that even though it runs at a slower clock speed, consumes about 1/3rd of the electricity, and is a laptop processor, its actually FASTER than any pentium D.
Therefore, some manufacturers have realised the potential, and are building/have built motherboards for desktop pc’s, that use Core processors.
The current fastest Core Duo runs at 2.16Ghz. It beats EVERY OTHER PROCESSOR in a great majority of tests. Pentium D’s are only really an option to be considered if you do a lot of video encoding or specialist tasks, where they come out slightly faster.

Also be aware that the current Core processors actually do not use the ‘Core’ technology that intel is trumpeting, but are actually dual core versions of the older pentium M mobile processors. The actual processors that use intels ‘core’ technology, are to be released at the end of the year.
